Abstract:

In this study, regional and at-site frequency estimation of annual precipitation were carried out through index-storm technique over Semi-Arid Konya Closed Basin in Central Anatolian Region in Turkey. Annual total precipitation series have been formed using precipitation records obtained from 44 rain gauge stations. Firstly, whole stations in Konya Closed Basin were assumed as one region and then stations were split up three regions due to discordant stations. A set of analysis was carried out and regional homogeneity is obtained and the most suitable distribution had been selected for each sub-region and probable precipitation values were estimated for various recurrence intervals (T year = 1.01, 1.02, 1.05, 1.11, 1.25, 2, 10, 20 and 100) via regional L-moment algorithm. Secondly, Monte Carlo simulation technique was used to assess the accuracy of the regional and at-site quantile estimates computing the relative root mean square error (RMSE) and relative bias.
