Abstract:

Irrigation water deficits and corresponding salinity-alkalinity problems are the most significant factors limiting agricultural activities over arid and semi-arid regions. Present research was carried out over agricultural lands of Konya-Çumra-Türkmenkarahüyük village with severe salinity-alkalinity problems. Irrigation water deficit brings the significance of winter precipitation into forefront with regard to reclamation of problematic sites. Current research investigates the effects of soil lime content on reclamation of saline-alkaline lands with winter precipitations under sub-surface drainage and insufficient leaching conditions during irrigation season. Such an investigation may also provide significant contributions to local farmers and regional economy. Results revealed decreasing salinity (EC - Electrical Conductivity) and alkalinity (ESP – Exchangeable Sodium Percentage) levels with winter precipitations. The rate of decrease was between 0.82 – 81.63% for EC values and between 8.79 – 69.12% for ESP values. Lack of leaching with irrigation water and insufficient winter precipitations slowed down the course of reclamation process.
