Influences of sodium polyacrylate on the water retention of soil and growth of fruit tree

Abstract:

Sodium polyacrylate is a kind of cross-linked hydrophilic polyacrylate that can swell up to hundreds of times of the dry weight in water. Sodium polyacrylate can not only enhance soil water retention, but also increase the yield of the fruit. Moreover, this ability depends on the amount of sodium polyacrylate applied and the soil type. In this study, the centrifugation was used to study the soil water retention properties of soils mixed with sodium polyacrylate; meanwhile, the study of the influence of sodium polyacrylate amount on the fruit yield in farmland has been made for two years. The result shows that: 1) Sodium polyacrylate can increase apparently soil water retention and soil available moisture, especially in sandy soil. 2) Super polyacrylate can raise soil water, and promote fruit growth and enhance fruit yield.
