Legal and practical approaches of soil quality in sustainable agriculture: Soil attributes under application of some organic farming amendments

Abstract:The development of relationships between applied research activities and policy and legislation studies regarding soil quality and environmental protection can provide farmers, consumers, policy makers and analysts new and relevant information to make right and fair decisions about the relative merits of different food production systems (organic, in this case) and technologies for a sustainable society, in an era of globalization. Practical experiments focused on the suitability of potato varieties for organic farming system and the development of technical elements for biological control of insect pests using herbal extracts of different concentrations; also, plots of organic crop rotation were monitored to study the evolution of soil physical and chemical properties under the influence of organic and chemical fertilizers. In this respect, the authors report results based on research activities developed within two research projects.
