Responsibility of demand in the market to sustainable development: How consumers evaluate wastewater services, nature protection and their contribution to it

Abstract:

The paper focuses on consumers, as representatives of demand in the market, starting from the premise that supply and demand, through production and consumption processes, have complex impact on environment and influence sustainable development. Consumers’ perceptions on waste water were tested: on the fairness of the tariff raise made with the purpose to protect the environment and the health of the population (24% see it as justified), on their personal contribution to environment protection through the payment of the sewerage tariff (50% perceive the usefulness of their contribution), on waste water collection and treatment price (74% see price as bearable compared to their income; 50% perceive it as average, low or very low compared to importance of nature protection).
