Abstract:

Soil organic carbon (SOC) amounts increase when agricultural soils are not cultivated for a long time. SOC amounts quickly decrease when these soils are zoned for agricultural use. For this study, soil samples, with soil thickness of 100 cm; carbon and biomass, which were mined in 1956 and demined in 2013, as well as surrounding lands which had been cultivated for an extended period of time, were compared. The findings reveal that SOC amounts in soil depth of 100 cm of demined soils vary between 20.32  and 23.86 kg C m-2 and soil inorganic carbon (SIC) amounts are between 40.01 and 52.00 kg C m-2. The mean biomass amounts are 56.39 g dry matter m-2 (DM) (23.38 g C m-2). Furthermore, the SOC amounts in soil depth of 100 cm of cultivated agricultural soils vary between 7.30  and 9.54 kg C m-2 and SIC amounts are between 59.59 and 63.80 kg C m-2. The total of mean biomass amounts are 964.04 g DM m-2 (433.82 g C m-2).
