Abstract:Endowment of natural resources and economic resources is not only an important guarantee of regional population development, but also the basis of sustainable development. Based on the improved model of relative carrying capacity of resources, we calculate the relative resources of population carrying capacity as well as relative resources economics carrying capacity in Tarim River Basin of Xinjiang from 2000 to 2011.We also discuss the temporal evolution and differences characteristics of 42 prefectures and cities in Tarim River Basin. The implications from the study are as follows: (1) Improved relative carrying capacity of resources model has a certain practical value of some importance to broaden the optimization of the relative carrying capacity of resources evaluation model. (2) Take Xinjiang as the reference areas, Tarim River Basin was in a stage with surplus economy and overload population from 2000 to 2011. Land resources are the comparative advantages of resources in Tarim River Basin, but water resources are relative disadvantage resources restricting population and economic development compared to Xinjiang. (3) Setting Tarim River Basin as the reference zone, 42 prefectures and cities performed a significant space difference according to the change of the relative population and economic carrying capacity of resources. Significant differences are also found between sub-river basins in terms of these factors, which is a reflection of the complex physical geography of the area. (4) According to the bearing state of relative carrying capacity of population and economic resources, we classified 42 prefectures and cities into four matching types, and summarized the evolution characteristics and development strategies.
