Abstract:

The aim of desert architectural building is to design a thermally, comfortable, indoor environment for residential building using the least amount of energy consumption for desert climates. Notably, high ambient air temperature makes the interior of the building uncomfortable. However, this paper demonstrates the effect of the desert climate of Hoon City, Southern Libya, on a low energy and new modern architectural design for a double-glazed window in a modern office room. The results obtained after four months of experimentation showed that high temperatures occurred from 09:00 to 18:00. The double glass window consists of two glass layers. The thickness of the external glazed, low-emissivity (low-e) window was 6 mm, and that of the internal clear glass was 6 mm. The gap between the two glass panes was 20 mm. The results showed that the differences in temperature between the indoor and outdoor office was 9°C to 14°C. Double glass windows with low-e properties can be used to improve the comfort of architectural residential buildings in desert areas.
