Abstract:The rush of common reed Phragmites australis is commonly found in the Noteć river valley and it is characterised by exceptional vigour, floristic poverty and huge yielding potential. Depending on biotope conditions and use from 1 ha, the yield of hay ranges from 12.1 to 28.6 t·ha-1 of poor use value (UVN) amounting to 2.8-4.2. Low moisture content and ash content, as well as high energy value and calorific value amounting to 18.1 MJ·kg-1 d.m. and 18.7 MJ·kg-1s.m confirm suitability of reed rush as the most promising energy raw material.
