Abstract:

Leaf-level variations in respiration are important components of the energy and carbon balance of plants under different environmental conditions. To understand this process better, leaf respiration in light (RL) of an evergreen conifer species (Pinus koraiensis) and a deciduous broad-leaved species (Tilia amurensis) in Changbai Mountain with varied soil water availability was investigated. RL declined and its light inhibition increased with decreased soil water availability. The deciduous broad-leaved species (T. amurensis) was more sensitive to soil water availability than the evergreen conifer species (P. koraiensis).
