There are countless numbers of tea brands present all over the world. The one prepared from leaves of the plant Camellia sinensis L. (Theaceae) is the favourite beverage drink in India. The reports of Tea Board in India indicated chances of adulteration in commercial tea brands. As we consume tea daily for its health benefits, it is important to assure its quality and safety. So, the present work analysed four widely used tea brands in Kerala namely Green Rich, Red Label, 3 Roses and AVT. The adulteration analysis showed chances of adulteration in the brands Red Label and AVT. Phytochemical screening also confirmed the difference in quality and quantity of phytochemicals between the studied brands. Antioxidant properties of these black tea brands were comparatively lower than the standard ascorbic acid. Based on adulteration study, phenolic concentration and DPPH radical scavenging potential at various concentrations, the brand 3 Roses was suggested as the safe and superior one among the four tea brands.
