Abstract:

Biogas generation from locally available organic wastes provides best alternative and economical source of energy. Various locally available biogas resources including cow dung wastes, kitchen wastes and other types of organic wastes have a big potential towards energy creation and manure is also derived from fully decomposed organic wastes slurry when digested in anaerobic digester. In this work, anaerobic digesters of 25 litres capacity are prepared using various materials like water jars, cock for outlet, funnel, PVC pipe, gas pipe, tyre tube for storing gas, two valves for closing and starting. In this study, cow dung and kitchen waste were assessed to check their potentiality towards biogas generation. In the present study biogas  generation is done under mesophilic condition. Similarly, optimum slurry temperature is achieved by using thermal insulation of anaerobic digester. Thermal insulation is achieved by tarpal canopy structure over digester and surface glazing of digester. Rice straw is utilized as a support media for attachment and growth of microorganisms. This study is done for retention time of 30 days and biogas generated is measured by volumetric method. Effect of temperature and pH on biogas generation was also analysed.
