Postharvest behavior of ‘Niitaka’ pear fruit as affected by GA pasting

Abstract:

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of gibberellin (GA₄₊₇) pasting on fruit quality and physiological disorders of ‘Niitaka’ pear (Pyrus pyrifolia L.) trees for two years. GA on the fruit pedicels was pasted at rates of 0 (control), 25, 50, and 75 mg at 30 days after full bloom. Fruit weight,length, and higher distribution of large fruit size were increased by GA pasting for two years. Fruit yield was greatest by the 50 mg GA pasting in year 1 but lowest by the control. Fruit soluble solids contents and titratable acidity were not significantly affected by GA pasting for two years. Control fruit had increased firmness in year 1 or alcohol insoluble solid and alcohol insoluble calcium in year 2. Fruit dehiscent, pithiness, and number of fruit decay much more occurred for GA-pasted fruits compared to control.
